Boutique cigar company Tabacalera Falto is releasing two new cigars later this month, the lancero-sized El Surco Cosecheros and the Cameroon-wrapped Edición Especial ELH Hato Viejo.

Previously available only in Puerto Rico, where Falto makes its headquarters, the Falto El Surco Cosecheros is now on its way to the United States. The slim smoke, which measures 6 7/8 inches by 40 ring gauge, is made with an Ecuadoran HVA (Havana Vuelta Arriba) wrapper and Dominican Criollo ’98 binder around Dominican filler. According to brand owner Luis Falto, the cigar is dedicated to the tobacco farmers. The word cosecheros is Spanish for “growers,” and surco translates to “furrow,” or the long, narrow trench made in the ground by a plow before planting seeds. El Surco comes in 25-count boxes and retails for $6.25 each. Those familiar with Falto cigars will notice how the band design differs from the rest of the line.

Falto celebrates his 46th birthday with the Falto Edición Especial ELH Hato Viejo, a 6 by 47 toro that’s wrapped in a Cameroon cover leaf around a Dominican Corojo binder and Dominican filler. Hato Viejo is the name of the farm from which most of the Dominican tobacco comes from, and ELH are the grower’s initials. These come in boxes of 20 and will retail for $6.50 each.

Like all Falto cigars, these new smokes are made in the Dominican Republic at the La Aurora S.A. factory. Only 100 boxes of each are being produced. Falto expects the new cigars to ship in a few weeks.

In his 26 years in the cigar business, Falto has taken an unusual approach to blending. He creates only one size for every blend, unlike most cigarmakers who will release a brand in many sizes. Falto is guided by the belief that every blend he comes up with is best expressed in a single format.
