Falto Celebrates 25 Years With La Pureza
It’s rare for a premium cigar company to make its headquarters in Puerto Rico, but Tabacalera Falto has been operating in that Caribbean nation for a quarter century. The small company, which is located in Mayagüez, on the western tip of the island, turned 25 years old in March. To celebrate the milestone, brand owner Luis Falto released the Falto La Pureza, a pigtailed panetela size that began shipping to U.S. retailers last week.
Falto doesn’t make its own cigars. La Pureza is rolled in the Dominican Republic by La Aurora S.A., measures 6 7/8 inches by 40 ring gauge and retails for $7 each. It’s blended with a Dominican Corojo wrapper, Dominican Criollo ’98 binder and filler from the Dominican Republic.
Like all Falto brands, La Pureza comes in only one size. This approach is certainly unorthodox in the premium cigar industry, but Falto believes that cigar blends are best expressed in one vitola, so his entire portfolio consists of single-size brands.
In a book of brands that has nearly every shape—from mini figurados and full-size perfectos, to Churchills and toros—the 25th anniversary La Pureza isn’t Falto’s first lancero-style smoke. He also produces a brand called Dos Banderas in the same size, though the blend is different.
La Pureza was supposed to come out in March to coincide with Falto’s anniversary, but the pandemic delayed the release. For a rating on the new cigar, see a future issue of Cigar Insider.
