Casa Carrillo Ships Ascend
Ascend is the latest installment in what Casa Carrillo refers to as the Perez-Carrillo Series, which includes the Pledge, La Historia, Allegiance and Encore brands. The new cigars had their market preview earlier this year at the PCA trade show in New Orleans, and today they began shipping to retailers.
Made at the company’s factory in the Dominican Republic, Ascend’s blend consists of a higher-priming Ecuador Habano wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder from Estelí and a combination of Nicaraguan fillers. In terms of strength, the company has blended these smokes to register on the stronger side of medium-bodied.
Ascend is available in three vitolas, each named to tell the story of elevation: Saddle, measuring 5 inches by 50 ring gauge ($12.75); Ridge, 6 by 52 ($13.75); and Peak, 6 1/4 by 58 ($14.95).
The cigars come packed in cream-colored boxes of 20, and those boxes are the reason they are late to market. Ascend was initially scheduled for a late May/early June release but was pushed back due to a delay in box production.
