A Suede Cigar Case And Lighter From Siglo
Leather has long been a material used for cigar cases, but suede? Not nearly as much. Do an online search and you won’t get too many results. It probably has less to do with style and more to do with suede’s delicate nature. Suede is the underside of a piece of cattle skin, whereas leather is the more rugged outside, making suede far more prone to stains and damage. On the other hand, suede’s soft, fuzzy nap offers a luxurious, tactile feel that normal hides just can’t give. Siglo Accessory noticed suede’s absence in the cigar gear segment and decided it’s time to put some on a case—and a lighter as well.
Siglo’s Suede Leather Case ($193) is based on the company’s standard three-finger model, which can hold cigars with thicknesses up to 56 ring gauge. Its orange interior contrasts brilliantly against the tan shade of suede, also adding a playful pop of color every time you open the case. The V-shape die cut opening on the lower half makes it easier to see and access shorter cigars. Siglo introduced the V-cut shape back in 2012 with its first snakeskin case. It was as functional as it was stylish because the shape was meant to resemble snake fangs. Since then, the pattern has become a signature standard for most of Siglo’s cigar cases regardless of the design.
Siglo has plied some suede onto a lighter as well. Trimmed with matte-gold accents, the Suede Twin Flame Lighter ($129) produces either a soft flame or a torch, depending on the need. Operation is easy: click one side back with your thumb to ignite the torch in windy conditions, or click the other side if you prefer a natural, softer flame. You’ll feel the silky soft texture of the suede either way.
As is true with anything made of suede, these cutters and lighters will require more delicate handling and you’ll definitely need to be careful around drinks and ashes. The tradeoff is a fine finish, silky feel and surprisingly fresh look in a category that can sometimes feel a little stiff.
