Montecristo Open Slam Released In The United Kingdom
More than two years ago, Habanos S.A. announced an expansion to its Montecristo Open line: a new size called Slam. In mid-May, Hunters & Frankau, the importer of Cuban cigars into the United Kingdom, presented the cigars at the IGNITE 2025 tobacconists trade show held in Northamptonshire, England. They began sending them out to shops shortly after, and last week, U.K. retailers started receiving the first shipments of this long-awaited smoke.
The Montecristo Open Slam measures 5 3/5 inches long by 52 ring gauge, a unique format in Cuban factories known as Idilicos. It’s the fifth cigar in the Montecristo Open line, and the first new size since Open debuted in 2009. They were originally marketed by Habanos to be “enjoyed al fresco,” with emphasis on the outdoor sporting life, and are purportedly milder than Montecristos from the standard range.
The cigar retails for £44.40 each (about $60) in the United Kingdom, or £849.10 per box of 20, roughly $1,150.
