Habanos Festival Officially Canceled

Months ago, worldwide Cuban cigar distributor Habanos S.A. announced it was postponing the Habanos Festival, an annual gathering of cigar distributors, retailers and cigar aficionados from around the world. Today, it was officially canceled.

“The Habano Festival Organizing Committee announces that, after assessing the current situation and with the aim of maintaining the standards of excellence that distinguish this renowned international event, the 26th Habano Festival will not be held this year,” Habanos announced via its Instagram page.

“Since its inception, the Habano Festival has established itself as the world’s premier showcase for premium cigars, celebrating Habano culture by bringing together aficionados, professionals, distributors and specialized media from around the world for a unique experience. Maintaining the quality of this experience . . . remains the top priority for its organizers. The organizing committee will continue to monitor developments closely with the aim of holding the next edition when conditions allow the Festival to be presented with the excellence, scope and quality that made it an international benchmark.”

This news comes as little surprise, given the difficulties currently facing Cuba. The nation is in the midst of a protracted energy crisis, with blackouts common and tourism suffering. The subject of Cuba’s struggles was the subject of a recent Cigar Aficionado Podcast, which you can view below.

Habanos went on to say that the Cubans would still be celebrating the 60th anniversary of its prestigious Cohiba line, and announced one of those celebrations would take place at a party in London on October 7. Click here for more details.
