Worldwide Cuban cigar distributor Habanos S.A. is giving Trinidad the Reserva treatment. The Trinidad Vigía Reserva Cosecha 2022 will premiere in Switzerland on September 19th at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace hotel, which is situated on Lake Geneva. This upcoming gala evening was organized in conjunction with Swiss Habanos distributor Intertabak A.G. According to Habanos, all the tobacco used for the Trinidad Vigía Reserva came from a 2022 harvest.

The Reserva and Gran Reserva programs are a series of standard-sized cigars in the Cuban portfolio made with older, vintage-specific tobaccos. Reservas ostensibly contain leaf that’s been aged for at least three years while the tobacco in Gran Reservas is purportedly a minimum of five years old. Both designations have vintage dates for the tobacco harvest indicated on each box. A secondary band denotes the cigars’ Reserva (silver lettering) or Gran Reserva (gold lettering) status. These limited-edition cigars also come packaged in hinged wooden boxes finished with a thick, luxurious, black piano-lacquer finish—similar to the Cohiba Behike boxes in the market today.

Reservas were first released in 2003 when Cuba created the Cohiba Selección Reserva, a box-set of 30 cigars all made with tobaccos from 1999. Then, in 2005 the market saw the Partagás Serie D No. 4 Reserva. Gran Reservas debuted in in 2009 with Cohiba Siglo VI.

Habanos considers all the cigars it chooses for the Reserva or Gran Reserva program to be reference sizes within the respective lines.

Like the regular-production cigar, the Trinidad Vigía measures 4 3/8 inches by 54 ring gauge. This release will mark the first time that a Trinidad has been part of the Reserva program. Neither photos nor prices are available, but given the expensive nature of both the Trinidad brand (a standard Vigía retails for £51 in the United Kingdom, or about $68) and Reserva cigars, it’s safe to say that this will be a very pricey release.
