The Cohiba Ambar, Cigar Aficionado’s No. 2 cigar of 2025, now comes in a glossy tubo, but you won’t find them everywhere. Some countries have them while others have yet to see any.

Word of the Cohiba Ambar first came in 2021 via an announcement from Habanos S.A., as the cigar was one of three Cohiba releases meant to coincide with Cohiba’s 55th anniversary celebration. It took three more years, however, before smokers started seeing Ambars on the market. The short, fat Cuban smokes measure 5 1/4 inches by 53 ring gauge, a size known as placeres in Cuban cigar factories. They are topped with pigtail caps reminiscent of Cohiba Behikes, Lanceros and Talismáns

Once released globally, we put the Ambars through our blind tasting process, and they performed quite well, eventually being named the No. 2 cigar of 2025 with a rating of 97 points. It was not only the best Cohiba, but also the best Cuban cigar we tested that year. Ambars were initially released in 10-count boxes but are now available (in some countries) in tubo three-packs. The tubos are the same pop-top, yellow-and-black tubes seen on other sizes in the Cohiba line, such as the Robusto, Pirámides Extra and Cohiba’s entire Línea 1492, also referred to as the Siglo Series.

In Switzerland, a three-pack of Ambar Tubos has a suggested retail price of 297 Swiss francs (about $365), which averages out to 99 Swiss francs per cigar, or roughly $122. In Germany, the retail price is set at 285 euros per pack (around $325). Spanish Habanos distributor Tabacalera S.R.L. tells Cigar Aficionado that they’ve received the tubos, but have yet to release them due to a small size of the delivery. And while Hong Kong reports to have already sold out of its allotment of Ambar Tubos, the United Kingdom and France have yet to receive any, but anticipate having them soon.
