Two U.S.-Inspired Joya De Nicaragua Cigars Arriving Soon
Joya de Nicaragua is getting patriotic. A pair of limited-edition Joyas that honor the United States are heading to tobacconists this spring. The first, called Joya Red White & Blue, is a U.S.-exclusive cigar made to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. The second, named Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Original Green Room Selection, is a tribute to a parlor in the White House where U.S. presidents and their guests once smoked cigars. Both will be on display at the PCA trade show next month in New Orleans.
Made to mark the official adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, Joya Red White & Blue comes in a single Toro size measuring 6 inches by 52 ring gauge. It’s rolled with an Ecuadoran Habano wrapper with binder and filler tobacco from Nicaragua. The Toro has a suggested retail price of $13.50 each, and comes packaged in 10-count boxes that feature a red, white and blue design emblazoned with stars and stripes. Just 500 boxes will be released, and the cigar will only be available to U.S. retailers.
“Joya Red White & Blue will start shipping to stores in early June,” Cristhian Lanzas, marketing director of SAG Imports, tells Cigar Aficionado. “The idea is to give consumers a month ahead to get it before the 4th of July.”
Joya’s second new release is a special size of Clásico Original that’s meant to celebrate the smoky history of the White House Green Room. In the early 1970s, Joya de Nicaragua was named the official cigar of the White House by President Nixon, and it was offered to visitors in the Green Room. Called Diadema, the upcoming cigar is a double-tapered, 6-by-54 figurado consisting of an Ecuadoran Connecticut shade wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler. Green Room Selection is priced at $13.50 and comes packaged in 20-count boxes.
“We produced 1,200 boxes of Clásico Original Green Room Selection,” says Lanzas. Only 700 boxes will arrive on U.S. shores, while the remaining 500 will ship to international markets. The cigar is slated to ship to retailers in late April right after the PCA trade show.
Both the Joya Red White & Blue and Green Room Selection are rolled at the Joya de Nicaragua factory in Estelí, and distributed by SAG Imports.
