The Cuban Trinidad Robusto Extra Returns
It’s taken more than a year since the announcement, but the repackaged, rereleased Trinidad Robusto Extra from Cuba is now available in the United Kingdom.
Fans will remember the Robusto Extra size (6 1/8 inches long by 50 ring), which was introduced in 2004, discontinued in 2012 and then brought back as a duty-free exclusive in 2021. At last year’s Habanos Festival, Habanos S.A. repositioned the Robusto Extra yet again, proclaiming that it would be back in regular production with new, sleek packaging. While the box count is the same, the box itself has changed dramatically, going from a simple, varnished wooden case to a far more decorative design with a glossy lid and repeating Trinidad logo more akin to what you’d see on luxury products.
Trinidad is one of Cuba’s most expensive cigar brands, second only to Cohiba, and the Robusto Extra is priced accordingly. The cigar retails for £66.10 (about $88.70), £758.80 (about $1,018) for a box of 12. For some perspective, the Robusto Extra retailed for £24.60 (about $33) in 2010, a few years before it was discontinued. Now that the cigars have been released in the United Kingdom, more countries should be receiving them soon, and at similar price points, as Trinidad, along with Cohiba, is priced roughly the same across the globe, pegged to prices found on the Hong Kong market.
The Robusto Extra’s return celebrates 55 years of the Trinidad brand. A second band and third foot band indicate the new 55th Anniversary release.
