Special-Edition Cubans Coming To Switzerland
This will be a big month for Cuban cigar fans in Switzerland, as three cigars are heading to the alpine nation. One of them is fairly new, one is very late to market and another was formerly a duty-free exclusive but all are specialty items intended for La Casa del Habano shops and Habanos Specialists.
Cigar Aficionado has been reporting on the Montecristo Herederos since it was announced at the 2020 Habanos festival, but this is the first time we’ve seen a formal announcement of its release. When it was initially previewed, the cigar was meant to celebrate 30 years of the La Casa del Habano franchise of retail shops as well as 85 years of the Montecristo brand. Both anniversaries have come and gone, but the cigar is still new to Switzerland, as this is the first time the country has received the Montecristo Herederos. It’s intended for Casa del Habano and Habanos Specialists and referred to as a Cazadores Especiales format in Cuban factories. The Herederos measures 6 3/8 inches by 47 ring gauge and comes in a 20-count commemorative humidor that will retail for 1,180 Swiss francs (about $1,460), or 59 Swiss francs apiece which works out to around $73 per cigar.
Also reserved for Casa del Habano and Habanos Specialist shops, the Trinidad Villa is on its way to Swiss retailers as well. The Villas were unveiled in November at a premiere party in Mexico and Switzerland will finally have its allotment soon. It measures 6 5/8 by 47 (known as a Julieta No. 3 in Cuban cigar factories) and is slated to retail for 900 Swiss francs (about $1,114) per 12-count box or 75 Swiss francs (approximately $93) per cigar.
If you missed the Cohiba Vistosos in the duty-free shops, the pigtailed cigars are coming to Switzerland’s regular market. Once a duty-free exclusive, Vistosos are the same size as the more common Trinidad Esmeralda—5 3/4 by 53. We didn’t have prices when it was previewed at the Tax Free World Association Exhibition & Conference in Cannes in 2024. Now we do. This 10-count case of Cohibas will cost 2,600 Swiss francs (about $3,218), which comes out to 260 Swiss francs per cigar or about $322 each.
According to Swiss Habanos distributor Intertabak AG, the cigars will be available at Casa del Habano shops on July 21, and then at Habanos Specialists on July 28.
