Room101 Relaunches Namakubi Chingon
Like a wandering rōnin, the long discontinued Room101 Namakubi Chingon has returned. It’s a samurai-themed cigar launched more than a decade ago by Room101 creator Matt Booth, and this year’s release has a new blend and packaging. The cigar was introduced in 2013 but it mostly drifted out of production in 2017 (excluding a brief return in 2023). The revamped Chingons began shipping last week.
Made in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera William Ventura, Namakubi Chingon is a double-tapered figurado measuring 5 1/2 inches by 60 ring gauge at its fattest point, and retails for $24.99 each. The new blend consists of a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, a Sumatra-seed binder from Ecuador and a combination of Pennsylvania broadleaf, Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. It’s intended to be a full-bodied smoke.
“Namakubi” is a Japanese word referring to the severed head of a samurai taken during battle.
Shipping in dark blue boxes of 10, each Namakubi Chingon comes individually wrapped in paper sleeves. This is a limited edition, although exact production numbers have not been disclosed.
