Oliva Cigar’s Soccer Ball Humidor Honors World Cup
Whether you call it soccer or football, the FIFA World Cup tournament is kicking off in June and Oliva Cigar Co. is celebrating with a limited-edition humidor and some special cigars. The striking, polyhedron humidor is meant to look like a soccer ball while the cigars inside have some extra age.
Each humidor holds 24 Oliva Serie V Melanio Double Toros measuring 6 inches by 60 ring gauge. Half of the cigars are made with the company’s Ecuador Sumatra wrapper (Natural) and the other half come in a Mexican San Andrés wrapper (Maduro). The rest of the tobacco was grown in Nicaragua, where the cigars are also produced by hand. What makes these Double Toros different from Oliva’s regular-production line is the additional age. According to Oliva, the cigars in this humidor spent three years aging after they were rolled, which is a longer period than typical cigars from the Serie V Melanio lines. Stylized foot bands on the bottom of each cigar indicate their special designation.
The World Cup-inspired humidor will be on display at this month’s PCA trade show and ship directly afterward. It has a suggested retail price of $680 each. Oliva is releasing 5,000 humidors—4,250 for the U.S. market, and 750 for the rest of the world.
