New Diplomaticos From Cuba Debuting In Late November
One of the many new Cuban cigars announced at the Habanos Festival earlier this year is scheduled to make its debut late next month. The Diplomaticos Cancilleres is scheduled for a November 27 launch in Sofia, Bulgaria, hosted by Bulgarian distributor Kaliman Karibe.
Diplomaticos is one of Cuba’s smallest cigar brands, and a relatively modern one. It was created in 1966 as a sort of less-expensive doppelgänger of Montecristo, with many of the same sizes and names (Nos. 1 through No. 5), but it never came close to the legend of Monte. Its sizes have been whittled down over the years so that only the No. 2 size (a pirámide) remained in the standard-production line, although it makes occasional appearances in Cuba’s Regional Edition program, such as the superb Genios, which hit the market earlier this year as a limited edition made for official Habanos distributor Phoenicia Trading.
But the Cancilleres (pronounced can-see-YEHR-ees) is different, the first new regular-production Diplomaticos in decades. It measures 5 inches long by 52 ring, packed in boxes of 25. Unlike other Diplomaticos cigars, this one comes with a pigtail cap. The word cancilleres translates to “chancellors” in Spanish.
Pricing has yet to be announced, but we’re expecting this cigar to relatively modest in price.
