A limited-edition size in the Macanudo Gold Label series is making its way to retailers today. Called Gold Bullion, the cigar is a box-pressed toro measuring 6 inches by 54 ring gauge. It comes in 20-count boxes and has a suggested retail price of $13.49 each. In addition to this year’s limited-edition Gold Bullion, brand owner General Cigar Co. is also shipping the line’s core six sizes.

What sets the Macanudo Gold Label apart from the more popular Macanudo Café line is the especially light Connecticut shade wrapper. Both brands are draped in leaves of Connecticut shade, but wrappers for the Gold Label are culled from a lower position on the tobacco plant, resulting in less sun exposure for tobacco that is lighter in both color and body. The line was introduced in 2002. Because the yield of such wrappers is low, General only releases Macanudo Gold Label cigars in limited quantities each year.

Underneath the Connecticut shade wrapper is a Mexican binder and filler blend of Mexican and Dominican tobacco, all intended to deliver a mellow smoke that leans mild.

Macanudo Gold Label is produced in the Dominican Republic at the General Cigar Dominicana factory, and is also offered in the following regular-production sizes:

  • Hampton Court (tubo), 5 1/2 by 42 ($13.29)
  • Lord Nelson, 7 by 49 ($13.79)
  • Tudor, 6 by 52 ($13.49)
  • Duke of York, 5 1/4 by 54 ($12.89)
  • Shakespeare, 6 1/2 by 45 ($12.69)
  • Ascot, 4 1/5 by 32 ($26.89 per 10-count tin)

Last year’s limited-edition was the Torpedo, which followed the Golden Fig in 2024 and the Golden Nugget before that.

“Gold Label is a release that continues to resonate with smokers year after year,” says Matt Wilson, senior brand manager for Macanudo. “With Gold Bullion, we’re introducing a box-pressed vitola for Gold Label that slightly shifts the smoking experience, while preserving the smooth, approachable character that defines the blend.”
