Macanudo Gold Coming In May With Fat New Size
Macanudo Gold makes its yearly return next month, and the extra-mild brand is being released in eight sizes, including the new Gold Nugget, a short, fat smoke made just for 2023.
Starting on the first of May, General Cigar will be sending out shipments of its annual Macanudo Gold, which showcases a light, Connecticut Shade wrapper grown in the Connecticut River Valley of the United States. These wrappers differ from those found on regular Macanudo Café cigars, as they were culled from lower positions on the tobacco plant, making them even lighter in color and body due to less sun exposure. Underneath is a Mexican binder and filler tobacco from Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
Made in the Dominican Republic at the General Cigar Dominicana factory, Macanudo Gold is offered in the following sizes and suggested retail prices:
- Hampton Court Tubo, 5 1/2 inches by 42 ring gauge ($11.79)
- Lord Nelson, 7 by 49 ($12.29)
- Tudor, 6 by 52 ($11.99)
- Duke of York, 5 1/4 by 54 ($11.49)
- Shakespeare, 6 1/2 by 45 ($11.29)
- Crystal, 5 1/2 by 50 ($12.29)
- Ascot, 4 1/5 by 32 ($24.29 per 10-count tin)
- Gold Nugget, 4 1/2 by 60. ($11.39)
Most of the cigars come 25 to the box, save for the 20-count Gold Nugget, eight-count box of Crystals (which come in glass tubes) and the 10-count tins of Ascots, which are made by machine.
Macanudo Gold was introduced in 2002 as an even lighter alternative to the already mild core Macanudo Café line. Now an annual release, Macanudo Gold will be sold until July 31, or whenever this year’s allotment has run out.
