La Flor Dominicana Expands Oro Line
La Flor Dominicana has doubled the size of its Oro line, adding three more cigars to this bold Dominican brand. The new additions are shipping now.
When La Flor Dominicana Oro was introduced in 2012, it came in three sizes—Chisel, No. 6 Natural and No. 6 Maduro—all of which were packaged in five-packs of glossy golden tubos. Earlier this year La Flor made the existing Oros available without tubes and in 20-count boxes. The new sizes are offered in 20-count boxes as well: No. 5, measuring 6 inches by 48 ring gauge ($16.80); No. 7, at 7 1/2 by 52 ($18.50); and the large, 7-by-60 No. 8 ($18.70).
All the tobaccos were grown in the Dominican Republic on the La Canela farm, save for the Nicaraguan wrapper. The farm belongs to Litto Gomez and his wife, Ines Lorenzo-Gomez, co-founders and co-owners of La Flor Dominicana. The wrapper is similar to that found on La Flor’s Coronado line, only it’s a higher priming leaf for more strength. La Flor’s cigars tend to be rather powerful, and Oro is no exception. The dry climate of La Canela results in stronger, more concentrated tobacco. Like all cigars from La Flor Dominicana, Oro is produced at Tabaclaera La Flor S.A. in the Dominican Republic.
Each cigar is affixed with a striking gold band, an allusion to Gomez’s tumultuous days as a jeweler before he entered the cigar business.
“What began as a moment of adversity became a story of strength,” Gomez says. “Every cigar we make is personal and has meaning. Oro reminds us that when you build with purpose, nothing is wasted.”
