La Aurora’s Especiales Returns
You may have missed it when La Aurora launched its Especiales line in 2022. It was a crowd-sourced, limited-edition cigar that La Aurora blended as a result of retailer input—100 retailers to be exact. Their feedback was taken into consideration and the Especiales was born, but the brand had a short run. Next month, La Aurora will be relaunching the line.
After taking into consideration retailer feedback, La Aurora finalized the blend: an Ecuadoran wrapper they call Cameroon seed (wrapper from Cameroon is grown from Sumatra seeds); a Dominican binder; and a filler blend of Pennsylvanian broadleaf and Dominican tobacco. Like all cigars from La Aurora (the Dominican Republic’s oldest premium cigarmaker) Especiales are made at the La Aurora S.A. factory.
The Especiales comes in 20-count boxes and is offered in four sizes: Robusto, measuring 5 inches by 50 ring gauge ($13.50), Toro, at 5 3/4 by 54 ($14.50); Corona Gorda, at 6 by 47 ($14); and a 6-by-58 Gran Toro ($15). Only 200 boxes of each size are planned for production.
Those attending the Premium Cigar Association’s Fall Fundraiser on September 11 will get the chance to preview the Especiales before it ships to retailers in October. La Aurora says that 50 cents from each cigar sold will be donated to the PCA in support of its advocacy mission to defend the premium cigar industry.
