General’s $250 Cohiba Now Offered At Duty Free And Regular Retail
It was once only available at duty-free outlets, but last week, General Cigar Co. shipped its Cohiba C8 to both duty-free as well as selected tobacconists—and the cigar has a suggested retail price of $249.99 each. The Cohiba C8 first came to market in 2021 as a 10-count travel set designed to look like a briefcase. Now, it's back with a different blend and new packaging.
Rolled in the Dominican Republic at General Cigar Dominicana, only two senior torcedors were entrusted to produce these cigars. The vintage-specific blend is not the same as the original release. This year’s edition consists of a Nicaraguan Jalapa wrapper from 2018; a Connecticut broadleaf binder from 2021; and a filler combination of Nicaraguan leaves from Estelí and Jalapa harvested in 2021 and 2022, respectively. There is also some Brazilian Mata Fina from 2022.
According to the company, these are intended to be a medium-bodied experience “defined not by power, but by poise.”
The new Cohiba C8 comes in one size, a Churchill measuring 7 inches long by 50 ring gauge (slightly shorter and slimmer than the 2021 edition). The 16-count box has a suggested retail price of $3,999.90. Only 100 boxes have been allocated for retailers and another 250 destined for duty-free shops.
