Ferio Tego might be a relatively young company, but it is poised to release a cigar commemorating a brand that just turned 30 years old. 

This week the first shipments of Ferio Tego Metropolitan 30 Years will head to retailers. It’s a limited-production cigar rolled in the Dominican Republic by the Quesada family, made from a blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Ecuadoran tobaccos. The wrapper is Ecuador Habano, the binder Dominican, and the filler is a mix of tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. It comes in one size, a toro measuring six inches long by 50 ring gauge.

The cigars are going to come in boxes of 10, priced at $135 per box, or $13.50 per cigar, before taxes. 

The Metropolitan brand dates back to the mid 1990s (Ferio Tego says it first appeared in either 1995 or 1996), back when it was sold as Nat Sherman Metropolitan. Back then the brand came in two styles, a lighter hued Connecticut and a dark Maduro. Ferio Tego brought back Metropolitan after Nat Sherman was acquired and exited the cigar business, and all Metropolitan cigars are still made by the same family that originally made them 30 years ago, the Quesadas.

That kind of loyalty and affection only happens when consistency remains core to the brand,” says Michael Herklots, co-owner of Ferio Tego. “When a blend is trusted, familiar, and respected over time, it becomes part of people’s personal history. After more than 30 years—and with a bright future ahead—that is certainly cause for celebration.”

Ferio Tego was created in 2021 by Herklots and Brendon Scott, who previously worked together at Nat Sherman International. The company has a cigar on Cigar Aficionado’s most recent Top 25, with its Ferio Tego Timeless Supreme 650 taking the No. 10 spot.
