Two new Romeo y Julieta cigars from Cuba—the anniversary Amantes and the Short Churchill Reserva—will be launching soon in Switzerland. They both come in eye-catching gift boxes, and Habanos says the Short Churchill Reserva is made with especially aged tobacco.

Romeo y Julieta

The Romeo y Julieta Amantes was unveiled at last year’s Habanos Festival and celebrated 150 years of the cigar brand in 2025. (It’s coming to the market just a bit late.) Each band is proudly emblazoned with a golden “150” in the center to mark the anniversary. The smoke is a Sobresalientes format, measuring 6 inches long by 53 ring gauge, the first time the Romeo brand has had a cigar of this size. They will be offered in five-count gift boxes.

These gift boxes of five cigars are set to go on sale on February 17 at Switzerland’s La Casa del Habano shops and then a week later at the country’s Habanos Specialist stores. They have a suggested retail price of 372 Swiss francs (about $480) per box, which works out to 74.40 Swiss francs per cigar, or about $96 apiece at current exchange rates. Eventually, the Amantes will be offered in 20-count boxes.

Romeo y Julieta

Also late to the market is the Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill Reserva. It was technically slated for a 2024 launch but now will have the same retail release schedule as the Amantes. Like regular-production Romeo Short Churchills, the Reserva measures 4 7/8 by 50 ring gauge. Unlike the standard cigars, these are made with aged, vintage-specific tobacco from a 2019 harvest. According to worldwide Cuban cigar distributor Habanos S.A., all cigars under the Reserva program are made with tobaccos aged for three years before rolling. (Gran Reservas are purportedly made with even older leaves, five-year-old tobacco.) A secondary band denotes its Reserva status.

The Short Churchill Reservas come in three-count gift boxes and have a suggested retail price of 534 Swiss francs (about $688), breaking down to 178 Swiss francs per cigar, or about $229.50 each. You pay for the extra age. A regular-production Short Churchill retails in Switzerland for 25.50 Swiss francs or around $33, so the same cigar with the Reserva designation amounts to nearly seven times the price. They will eventually ship in the typical Reserva high-gloss 20-count boxes.

There is no official word as to when these cigars will appear in other markets throughout the world, but they will most likely show up slowly in different regions during the year.
