Eladio Diaz To Release “Unforgettable” 73rd Anniversary Birthday Blend
In celebration of his 73rd birthday, industry veteran Eladio Diaz will be launching another limited-edition cigar in May. It’s called the Eladio Diaz 73 Aniversario “Unforgettable Edition” and according to the company, it’s the first cigar to come out of Diaz’s factory with eight different tobaccos inside.
The 73 Aniversario “Unforgettable Edition” comes presented in unusual packaging: an 11-count box that consists of 10 Toro Extra cigars (6 1/2 inches by 54 ring gauge) and one 5-by-50 Robusto. Both cigars have the same blend: eight tobaccos, all of them grown in the Dominican Republic. There is a Corojo-seed wrapper from the southern part of the country; two binders (one Sumatra seed, the other San Andrés Negro seed) and a filler combination of Habano 2000, Corojo ’99, Criollo ’98, Corojo ’06 and Piloto Cubano.
The Toro Extra will have a suggested retail price of $25 and the Robusto is priced at $20, though the company says that the main goal is to sell the cigars by the box as a complete package. Like all Eladio Diaz cigars, this limited edition is made in the Dominican Republic at his own cigar factory, Tabacalera Diaz Cabrera. It will be on display at next month’s PCA trade show before it ships the following month. Only 2,000 boxes are being released.
According to Diaz, this blend reminds him of a pre-Castro Cuban cigar once given to him by Daniel Nuñez, former president of General Cigar Co. Diaz says that experience was unforgettable.
