El Rey Del Mundo King of the World VSOP Now Shipping
In 2024, Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) teamed up with Honduran cigarmaker JRE Tobacco Co. for a limited-edition El Rey del Mundo called King of the World (the translation of El Rey del Mundo). Now, the brand has a limited-edition spinoff called King of the World VSOP which is on its way to retailers today.
The designation VSOP comes from the spirits world, particularly for brandy and Cognac. In that sphere it stands for “Very Superior Old Pale,” and is assigned after a minimum aging of four years. In this case, it stands for “Very Special Old Parejo,” and refers to the extra age of the cigars. According to STG, these smokes were rolled in 2021 and have been aging ever since.
Unlike the original King of the World—which was a Honduran puro made in Honduras—King of the World VSOP is made in Nicaragua at the STG Estelí factory, and consists of an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and combination of Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. It comes in one size, a toro measuring 6 inches by 52 ring gauge ($10.99). According to STG, this is a medium-to-full-bodied cigar.
The new El Rey del Mundo King of the World VSOP comes boxes of 16. Only 2,000 boxes will be produced.
