Cuban Partagás Royales Made Just For Duty Free
The tony city of Cannes on the French Riviera is famous for its film festivals, but did you know it’s also where some Cuban cigars make their premiere? On Tuesday night, worldwide Cuban cigar distributor Habanos S.A. presented the newest travel humidor during its evening gala at this year’s Tax Free World Association (TFWA) Exhibition & Conference in Cannes, France. The special-edition humidor is dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the Partagás brand.
Each humidor contains 20 Partagás Royales, a new size measuring 5 7/8 inches by 48 ring gauge (referred to as Dichosos in Cuban cigar factories). These cigars will only be available in duty-free retail outlets around the world. According to Habanos, the Royales have been classified as fuerte, Spanish for “strong.”
If you’ve been smoking Cuban cigars for many decades, the name Royales might sound vaguely familiar. This release is a revival of sorts, as there was a Partagás petit corona called Royales from the 1960s. Habanos says that the new Royales have been “reinterpreted with a renewed and contemporary style.” That reinterpretation applies to both the much larger format of the cigar and the sleek design of the packaging. The primary band has also been redesigned to reflect the brand’s major anniversary.
There’s no word on when Partagás Royales will start to appear in duty-free shops, nor what they will cost, but expect them to be expensive. Previous duty-free releases include the Cohiba Vistosos, Trinidad Robusto Extra and Quai d’Orsay Imperiales.
