Cohiba And Montecristo Humidors Celebrate Year Of The Rabbit With Cuban Shorts
If the Cohiba Siglo De Oro is too expensive or too difficult to find, Cuba is offering a few budget-friendly options to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Two humidors—one Cohiba and the other Montecristo—are loaded with dozens of Shorts, small-format, machine-made cigars, and both boxes are covered in a high-gloss lacquer finish decorated with the Chinese Zodiac motif.
The Shorts contain short-filler tobacco and measure 3 1/4 inches by 26 ring gauge. Not to be confused with Clubs or Minis (two other Cuban small-format, machine-made smokes) the Shorts typically come in cardboard packs. While the Cohiba Year of the Rabbit humidor contains 88 Shorts, the Montecristo contains 66. And rather than retailing for thousands of dollars, these can be had for $240 or less.
Like previous Lunar New Year packages, production is limited. Only 8,888 numbered Montecristo humidors are being produced. Cohiba is slated for a larger run of 15,888 humidors and Switzerland will be among the first countries to receive both releases, with La Casa del Habano shops getting the first allotments on February 21. Stores designated Habanos Specialists will have them the following week. The Cohiba humidor is expected to retail for 218 Swiss Francs ($237.40), the Montecristo, 140 Swiss Francs ($152.45).
These humidors are intended for worldwide distribution (save for the U.S.), though there’s no word as to when the other global markets will receive its shipments. Similar humidors were created in 2022 for the Year of the Tiger and 2021 for the Year of the Ox.
