Chazz Palminteri’s ‘A Bronx Tale’ Sonny Ships
Cigars and mob movies can sometimes go hand in hand. Actor Chazz Palminteri certainly thinks so. He wrote both the screenplay and starred in the Mafia film A Bronx Tale, and released his first brand of the same name in 2023. Now, Palminteri has a new limited-edition cigar named after his character: the charismatic yet fatalistic crime boss Sonny. The new ‘A Bronx Tale’ Sonny by Epic Cigars was expected to hit the market in the spring, but began shipping to retailers last week.
Sonny is available in one size, a box-pressed toro measuring 6 1/2 inches by 54 ring gauge (previous reporting had the dimensions as 6 by 54). Sonny follows up ‘A Bronx Tale’ Calogero, which was named after the film’s protagonist. Like their screen counterparts, Sonny is bolder than Calogero, with a full-bodied blend incorporating a dark, Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper with a Dominican binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. It has a suggested retail price of $25 apiece.
Calogero debuted in 2023 as a single limited-edition size and was later expanded into a regular-production line. According to Zander-Greg Imports, which distributes the cigars, Sonny is also intended to become a full line.
‘A Bronx Tale’ Sonny is produced in collaboration with Dean Parsons of Epic, and Paul DiSilvio of La Casa Grande Cigars, a small rolling operation in the Bronx, New York. (You can read all about it in the new issue of Cigar Aficionado.) The cigar is made in the Dominican Republic at the Charles Fairmorn factory, and the Sonny size is limited to 1,000 boxes of 12.
