C.L.E. Cigar Co. Adds Maduro Line
Honduran cigarmaker C.L.E. Cigar Co. is expanding its flagship brand with a new, dark line called C.L.E. Maduro, which will be appearing at next month’s PCA trade show in New Orleans. It’s expected to ship in April or May.
The Maduro line comes in the midst of a revamp of the company’s C.L.E. brand, which is being pared brand down to the lines named after their wrappers: Corojo, Connecticut and Habano, plus this new version. C.L.E. Maduro retains the Honduran binder and fillers of the core lines but is rolled with a dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper. According to the company, the cigars are medium-bodied in terms of strength.
The Maduro line is available in the same five sizes as the other core lines. Most are named for their dimensions: 40 x 4 ($5.00); 50 x 5 ($10.66); 54 x 6 ($11.36) and 60 x 6 ($11.66). The fifth size, the 11/18 ($11.16) is a figurado that’s 6 inches long, measures 50 ring gauge at its head and foot and has a widened middle that is 54 ring gauge at its thickest point.
All sizes ship in boxes of 25. Like the rest of the C.L.E. core brands, the Maduro line is made at the company’s factory in Honduras.
Other C.L.E. lines such as Signature, Azabache, Prieto and Chele have been removed from regular production, though Christian Eiroa told Cigar Aficionado that they will remain as special-order items.
