Brick House Maduro Gets Hefty New Size
Cigars are getting thicker and thicker, and the once-excessive 60 ring gauge has left novelty status behind and has become standard in today’s market. In reflection of this growing trend, J.C. Newman has upped the ante, adding a chunky new size to the maduro version of its venerable Brick House brand called The Commodore.
“Our most popular Brick House size is the 6 1/4-by-60 Mighty Mighty,” says fourth-generation owner Drew Newman. “This year, we will hand roll 1.1 million cigars in that vitola alone. The Commodore is Mighty Mighty’s big brother. It recognizes the popularity of larger ring gauge cigars, but its standard 5 1/2-inch length makes it more approachable than the typical 7 by 70.”
Made in Nicaragua at the company’s PENSA factory, the 5 1/2-by-70 Commodore consists of a Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper atop Nicaraguan binder and filler. Retailing for $11.50 each, the cigar is available in both boxes of 25 and humidor bags of five. The Commodore brings the Maduro line to four sizes.
The new cigar will be shown at this weekend’s PCA trade show in New Orleans and is scheduled to ship June 1.
