Casa Carrillo Adding Ascend
Casa Carrillo has a new, regular-production brand that it will be showing off to retailers later this week at the PCA trade show in New Orleans. Called Ascend, the cigar is made with a combination of Ecuadoran and Nicaraguan tobaccos.
Ascend has three sizes: Saddle, which measures 5 inches long by 50 ring, and has a suggested retail price of $12.75; Ridge, which is 6 by 52 and sells for $13.75, and Peak, which measures 6 1/4 by 58 and retails for $14.95. The three vitolas are meant to tell a story of elevation.
Ascend is part of what Casa Carrillo calls the Perez-Carrillo Series, which includes such Casa Carrillo brands as Pledge, Allegiance, La Historia and Encore. The cigars are rolled in Santiago, Dominican Republic, at the Casa Carrillo factory, and are made with Ecuadoran Habano wrappers, Nicaraguan binders from Estelí and a mix of Nicaraguan filler tobaccos.
The company said shipments would commence in late May or early June. Look for a blind taste test of the new brand in a future issue of Cigar Insider, the twice-monthly cigar newsletter from Cigar Aficionado.
