A New Regional Edition Cuban Bolivar
Ever wonder what would happen if you took the Cuban Bolivar blend and gave it the same pirámides shape as a Montecristo No. 2? You can find out if you go to Belgium or Luxembourg, collectively known as Belux.
The new Regional Edition Bolivar Generales is now available in those two countries, and it retails for 25 euros per cigar (about $29) or 250 euros per 10-count box, which works out to around $290. Like the Montecristo No. 2 it measures 6 1/2 inches by 52 ring gauge. Only 10,000 numbered boxes are being released.
The Bolivar Generales, which should have been released last year, is a bit behind schedule as it also commemorates the 60th anniversary of Laguito 1492 N.V., the distribution company that imports and sells Cuban cigars to the Belux region as well as The Netherlands. Back in 1965, the importation company was known as Robert Suter S.A. before it was renamed Cubacigar Benelux N.V. in 2006.
It wasn’t until 2021 that the company was re-christened Laguito 1492 N.V. The new name pays homage to El Laguito in Havana (Cohiba’s mother factory), and the year Columbus discovered the Americas, as well as tobacco. The 60th anniversary logo is indicated on the cigar’s secondary band, while a foot band depicts the company logo.
