Wild New Sizes of Fuente Fuente OpusX for Charity
Making any cigar is a difficult task, but crafting an intricate, curved shape out of tobacco using only a chavetta and a pair of hands is something only an artist can do. The best torcedores at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. have perfected the art of making creative cigar designs, several of which went on sale as part of a collection of cigars called Opus22.
The 2007 release of Opus22, distributed for Fuente by Prometheus International Inc., consists of 500 boxes containing 22 Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars, most of them unusual sizes that aren't part of the typical ensemble available on retail shelves. This year's collection includes the BBMF, a large figurado with a bulbous foot, a moptop and a tip of maduro wrapper (one bearing a 2005 band is pictured); the maduro version of the BBMF, which is made with sun-grown leaf from Chateau de la Fuente and has Connecticut shade at the tip instead of maduro; the Chili Pepper, a slim, strong cigar that resembles a hot pepper; the Rising X, an OpusX with two pigtails that are intertwined in an "X" shape, a cigar that was first smoked at a Cigar Aficionado Big Smoke in Las Vegas; and a mini BBMF called LBMF.
Each cigar comes packed in an individual cedar box (known as a coffin in the industry) imprinted with the cigar's name and the year of release. Each of the 500 boxes is serial numbered, and retails for $750 each.
All net profits from the sale will benefit the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, which helps underprivileged children living around Chateau de la Fuente in the Bonao region of the Dominican Republic.
