Espinosa Premium Cigars has introduced two limited-edition smokes. One is an extension of the company’s Murciélago brand, which is exclusive to retail members of the Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA), while the other, Las 6 Provincias, pays tribute to Cuba’s pre-revolutionary past.

Shipping to retailers now, Murciélago Shikaka is a follow-up to Murciélago de Oro, Espinosa’s first TAA exclusive, which came out last year. Shikaka is named after the Great White Bat (murciélago is Spanish for “bat”), a species native to Central America. The cigar comes in the same dimensions as Murciélago de Oro, a toro measuring 6 inches by 54 ring gauge, and is likewise pressed in an ovular shape. It consists of an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper atop Nicaraguan binder and filler. Murciélago cigars from the core line are made with very dark, Mexican wrappers.

Production is limited to just 1,000 boxes of 20 cigars, with a price of $15 each or $300 per box.

Las 6 Provincias

Earlier this month, the Espinosa Las 6 Provincias ORT began shipping to retailers. The sixth and final installment in the series, it’s rolled in a 6-by-56, box-pressed toro size and consists of an Ecuador Habano cover leaf, Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan filler. Las 6 Provincias, or “the six provinces,” started in 2018, and Espinosa has launched a new “province” each year. It’s named after the pre-Castro provinces of Cuba before they were re-zoned in 1976—in this case, Oriente, which was divided into five different provinces.

The cigars have a suggested retail price of $18 each or $360 per 20-count box. Only 1,000 boxes are being produced.

Both releases were blended by Hector J. Alfonso Sr. and are produced by A.J. Fernandez in Nicaragua at his San Lotano factory.
