You might think of the Amber Room, the expansive cigar lounge on the sixth floor of the new St. Regis Cap Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic, as a chapel devoted to Arturo Fuente cigars, the maker of which partnered with the resort to create a world-class smoking space worthy of one of the country’s premier producers.
The moody, masculine lounge, named for the golden hue of rum and the warm glow of a cigar, features a dramatically lit bar serving up a curated selection of rums, brandies and whiskeys along with smoky cocktails and sophisticated Latin-inspired bites. An outdoor terrace overlooks the resort for an al fresco smoke. A walk-in humidor showcases an array of Fuente cigars including special OpusX anniversary cigars displayed on a center table as though at an altar.
The rummelier specializes in suggesting rum for cigar pairings, but you can also partner your smoke with Glenmorangie single malt, premium Tequila, XO Cognac and more.
A nightcap with a cigar is an ideal way to cap off a day of golf on the neighboring Jack Nicklaus Signature Punta Espada oceanside links, one of the top-rated courses in the Caribbean and Mexico.
You can also lose track of time lounging at an array of swimming pools, lying in a beach cabana on the resort’s secluded cove or simply stepping off your pool suite’s patio for a dip.
