The Lodge at Sea Island, Georgia
The Lodge at Sea Island underwent a modernizing renovation but the golf mecca managed to retain the charm of an English manor house.

Guests sip sundowners as a lone bagpiper plays off the day while strolling around the waterfront putting green at The Lodge at Sea Island. The sun may be setting at the golf mecca with three championship golf courses on historic Sea Island off the southern coast of Georgia, but there is still plenty of reason to stay up at night at the extensively renovated resort.

At The Cloister, the resort’s main hotel, the Georgian Rooms restaurant offers a completely new fine-dining concept with three distinct spaces. Start off in the lounge with sushi and sashimi paired with Ginza-style cocktails, then move to the main dining room that opens to the airy new glass-enclosed Orangery, where the menu showcases local grass-fed beef and fresh-caught seafood. Close the evening with dessert and a nightcap in the cozy library.

The Lodge also lightened up its classic Southern steakhouse, Colt & Alison, with a more contemporary vibe. The update includes a semi-private dining room with a fireplace and a golf motif. The 43 guest rooms have been refreshed, but the overall atmosphere of an English country manor remains.

Sea Island indulges any vacationer’s resort wish list with a beach club on five miles of private beach, a tennis center, spa, shooting school, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking and the list goes on.

For golf enthusiasts, The Lodge even draws PGA Tour champs to play and train. The 17,000-square-foot Golf Performance Center is staffed by top instructors, a golf fitness expert, sports psychologists and club fitters. It’s equipped with six hitting bays and a putting studio enhanced with the latest tech designed to up anyone’s game.

Had enough of practice for the day? Head for The Lodge’s grand Men’s Locker Room, which is the ultimate man cave with a massive stone fireplace and beamed ceilings, full bar, steam room, barbershop and, of course, a cigar room. Golfing not required.
