Quesada Creates Dominican Casa Magna
You know Casa Magna as a Nicaraguan cigar made by the Plasencias, but owned by the Quesadas, a Dominican cigarmaker. Now Quesada is expanding its portfolio with a new, regular-production offshoot of Casa Magna that’s made in the Dominican Republic. Named Casa Magna Liga F (short for Liga Fuerte, or strong in Spanish), the line will be presented at the PCA trade show next month in Las Vegas. Retailers can expect the cigars to start shipping by September.
Made at Quesada’s Tabacos de Exportación Inc. (TABADEX) factory in the Dominican Republic, Casa Magna Liga F is made from a blend of Ecuador Corojo wrapper, Dominican binder and an assortment of ligero, viso and seco leaves from both Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic for the filler. According to the company, the smokes are full bodied.
Liga F will be available in four sizes: Robusto, measuring 5 inches by 54 ring gauge ($9); Toro, 6 by 52 ($9.50); Churchill, 7 by 50 ($9.70); and Petit Corona, 4 1/4 by 40 ($5.80). All the sizes will come in boxes of 10 cigars, excluding the Petit Corona, which will be sold in packs of five.
Previous Casa Magnas have all been made in Nicaragua, excluding the Oscuro line, which is rolled in Honduras. This regular-production Dominican version is a first for the brand—a Dominican Casa Magna called Licey was made by Quesada specifically for catalog and online cigar retailer Cigars International.
