Punch Eggroll Delivered This April For Cigar Shop Takeout
What started out as an April Fool’s Day joke ended up as a legitimate, limited-edition release. The Punch Egg Roll is a 4 1/2 inch by 50 ring gauge cigar with some exposed filler sticking out of the shaggy foot intended to resemble the shredded cabbage of an egg roll.
“Initially it was going to be a fake press release,” said Ed Lahmann, senior brand manager for Punch cigars. “But my sales guys told me to go with it, so I did.”
If you think that’s funny, the real punchline is delivered when you see the box, which looks like a Chinese-food takeout container.
Like an egg-roll, the new Punches are relatively inexpensive, at $3.99 each. According to Lahmann, only 3,000 boxes of 25 will be “ready for delivery” on April 1.
Made at General Cigar’s HATSA factory in Danlí, Honduras, the Egg Roll consists of a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, Ecuadoran Sumatra binder and a filler blend of Colombian, Mexican, American and Dominican tobacco.
Inside each band is one of five fortunes, similar to a fortune cookie.
“We wanted to get smokers out of hibernation and back out to their favorite cigar shops,” adds Lahmann. “It’s a premium, handmade smoke at an incredible price point with a blend that will drive cigar lovers to buy full takeout boxes at a time."
