Piece Unique From Gellis Family Goes International
Late last year, Kyle Gellis, owner of Warped and Gellis Family Cigars, released his first Piece Unique, a one-time run of small-batch smokes. This fall, he’ll be launching another one, only this time the cigar has a different blend and is intended solely for international markets. It will be introduced at the InterTabac trade fair in Dortmund in September and ship shortly after.
For the Piece Unique concept, Gellis borrowed from the world of high-end watches. In horological terms, a piece unique is a one-of-a-kind timepiece, typically marketed to the most discerning, and usually the wealthiest, collectors.
Both versions of Piece Unique were made in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera La Isla. And both have light, Ecuadoran Connecticut-seed wrappers, but the new cigar is made with a Brazilian Arapiraca binder (rather the Nicaraguan binder of the previous version), and a filler blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco as well as some Peruvian Pelo d’Oro.
Size and pricing are the same as the original—6 inches by 52 ring gauge with a suggested retail price of $40 each. The cigars come in 15-count boxes. Only 500 boxes are being released. According to Gellis, all the cigars are “medium-plus” in body, and will have been aged for a year before going out to retailers.
