New Aged, Limited and Rare by Rocky Patel Ships
The latest smoke from Rocky Patel—a completely new version of Aged, Limited and Rare—has started shipping and is expected to reach cigar shops this week. But there aren’t many of them.
“We’ve been making them in batches,” Rocky Patel, owner of Rocky Patel Premium Cigars, told Cigar Aficionado. Production is limited, as there are only 10 rollers in Nicaragua who make the cigar. The real limiting factor, though, is the aging process. The cigars were rolled in 2017, and have been aging for two years.
The limited-edition cigars are quite unlike the previous version of ALR, which came out in 2018. The new cigars, which are box pressed, are made with a core of filler tobaccos grown on Patel’s farms in Estelí and Condega, Nicaragua. The wrappers are dark, Mexican San Andrés.
The new smokes come in three sizes: Robusto, measuring 5 1/2 inches by 52 ring gauge; Toro, 6 1/2 by 52; and Sixty, 6 by 60. They retail for $13, $14 and $15, respectively and were rolled at Patel’s TaviCusa Factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
There are three sizes in the brand, and this first batch is limited to 2,000 boxes per size. With 20 per box, that’s 120,000 cigars total.
If you miss this batch, there will be more—but not for a while. “We’re going to release it once a year,” said Patel. “I wish we had more.”
