Macanudo With Barrel-Aged Binder Making Third And Final Appearance
The third and final release of the Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll will be arriving on October 10. The cigar features binder tobacco aged in an oak wine barrel that once held Cabernet Sauvignon from the Flint Knoll Winery in California’s Napa Valley. The idea is not only to create a synergistic pairing between the wine and the cigar, but also for the barrel to impart a distinct quality to the tobacco.
Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll first came out in 2022, and has been released annually. Like last year’s rollout, the cigar is made with a Connecticut-seed wrapper from Ecuador and a filler combination of tobacco from Brazil, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. It’s the Connecticut broadleaf binder that defines this blend, as it was aged in French oak that once held Flint Knoll’s 2021 Royal Appointment Cabernet. This differs from the 2023 release, which used barrels from the 2019 vintage. According to Flint Knoll’s founder, Aaron Michaelis, the differences are notable.
“2021 was a special year for Napa Valley wine” he says. “A lack of rain and lower temperatures brought us an ultra-rare vintage, and you can taste the subtleties in the tobaccos aged in the same barrels.”
The Macanudo Estate Reserve Flint Knoll No. 3 measures 7 inches by 52 ring gauge and comes in a 10-count box. The cigars were made at the General Cigar Dominicana factory in the Dominican Republic and have a suggested retail price of $19.99 each.
