La Palina Collaborates With Oliva Cigar Co. On 1948 Line
La Palina Cigars has teamed up with Oliva Cigar Co. for a new brand that celebrates the 75th birthday of La Palina’s chairman Bill Paley, which took place in March. Called La Palina 1948, the new line will debut at this year’s PCA trade show before it ships to retailers in the fall.
Made in Estelí, Nicaragua, at Oliva’s Tabolisa factory, La Palina 1948 consists of a sun-grown Ecuador Sumatra wrapper that, according to the company, was aged for two years. The rest of the tobacco is from Nicaragua grown on farms owned by Oliva. The cigars are intended to be medium in body and will be released annually in limited quantities.
La Palina 1948 comes in four sizes: Churchill, measuring 7 inches by 52 ring gauge ($25); Toro, 6 by 52 ($24); and Robusto, 5 by 52 ($22). A fourth size, the 6-by-46 Diadema, will be available only to retailers who attend the trade show next month. It has a suggested retail price of $23. All sizes are box-pressed and come in boxes of 10.
Both the cigar bands and inner box lids feature illustrations of Estelí and Manhattan as they appeared in 1948, as well as an image of Paley during his service in Vietnam.

"The 75-year journey I have taken, to where I am now, has been a marvelous adventure. My grandfather was a key figure in starting the company, and this cigar is also a tribute to his legacy and our continued success.
