La Flor Dominicana Adds Ligero Lancero And “A”
La Flor Dominicana, makers of some of the most popular cigar brands in America, has expanded its portfolio with two new cigars, each covered with a rare wrapper leaf. The company added two vitolas to its La Flor Dominicana Ligero line, the Lancero and the “A.” Each is scheduled to reach cigar store shelves around the end of August.
The Lancero ($15) measures 7 1/2 inches long with a 38 ring gauge and a pigtail. The “A” ($24) measures 9 1/2 inches by 47 ring. The cigars come in dramatic new boxes of 10 with stark artwork.
While the La Flor Dominicana Ligero line is a large one, with a consistent flavor profile, the new Lancero and “A” are made with different wrappers and different filler than the other Ligeros. Each is wrapped in a dark, Ecuadoran leaf that the company hasn’t used before.
“It’s a new wrapper from the Perez family,” cigarmaker and La Flor Dominicana owner Litto Gomez told Cigar Aficionado as he smoked one on the IPCPR trade show floor in Las Vegas. “It’s a proprietary seed.”
Brothers David and Joseph Perez own and operate Miami-based A.S.P. Enterprises Inc., which grows tobacco in Ecuador, Nicaragua, and other parts of Central and South America.
The filler also has a new twist. While the leaves are Dominican, grown on the La Canela farms owned by Gomez, some of them come from Habana 2000 seed, a first for the company.
“We’re using Habana 2000 for the first time,” said Gomez.
