La Aurora To Release A New Cigar Honoring Pro Football Hall Of Famer Anthony Muñoz
Anthony Muñoz, a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer, is the living embodiment of what an offensive tackle should be and look like. Listed at 6 feet 6 inches tall and 278 pounds during his playing days, the towering lineman is considered by many to be one of, if not the best, offensive tackles in NFL history. La Aurora—the Dominican Republic’s oldest premium cigarmaker—is honoring the gridiron legend with a new cigar that fittingly comes in a grande format, with a strong wrapper leaf to match.
The new cigars debuted ahead of Super Bowl LX in San Francisco, at the “Ditka & Jaws Cigars with the Stars” event put on by the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund, a non-profit that provides financial grants and pro bono medical assistance to retired NFL players in need.
“The Gridiron Greats put on another incredible night, and it’s always an honor for us at La Aurora to be part of something that meaningful,” says La Aurora national sales director John Ferrigan. “Getting to celebrate the game and give everyone a first look at the Anthony Muñoz 78 made it even more special for me personally.”
The Anthony Muñoz 78 by La Aurora cigars will come in one format to start, the Gran Toro, which measures 6 inches by 60 ring gauge. The blend includes Criollo, Corojo and Piloto Cubano tobacco from the Dominican Republic and Pennsylvania broadleaf for the filler, with a Habano binder from the Dominican Republic and a Pennsylvania broadleaf wrapper. The cigars will be available in 20-count boxes with a suggested retail price of $18 per stick, or $360 a box. As with most La Aurora cigars, these were rolled in the Dominican Republic at the La Aurora S.A. factory.
“We hope this cigar blesses a connection, conversation, round of golf or a time of reflection,” says Muñoz. “Thanks to the many fans for the support.”
The initial production run was limited to just 1,000 boxes, which La Aurora says will be used for events and box signings in the Ohio market, with just a small allocation available on AnthonyMunoz.com. While the cigars are set to formally debut at the end of this month in Ohio, La Aurora says future plans for expanded formats and a national launch are in the works.
