James Fox Celebrates 135 Years With Anniversary Humidor
In 1881, James Fox opened up a tobacco shop on Grafton Street in Dublin. Over a century later, it remains in its original location and is still owned by the Fox family.
This year marks the 135th anniversary of the venerable Irish tobacconist. To celebrate the occasion, the Foxes have released a limited run of 50 anniversary humidors. Crafted in Cuba by Humidores Habana, the box is a replica of a vintage cabinet humidor from the 1940s and holds 50 Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 cigars made in 2013.
"Hoyo de Monterrey is one of our best-selling cigars and was in fact the favorite brand of our late esteemed chairman Freddy Fox," said managing director David McGrane to Cigar Aficionado. "At the time the idea of the humidor was conceived, we received a consignment of 2013 Epicure No. 2s, which we considered to be exceptional. So we felt no better tribute than to incorporate them in our humidor."
The quaint, okoume humidors are sold in the retail shop at 1,750 Euro each, however mail orders outside of the European Union are exempt from local taxes (VAT) bringing the cost down considerably. The humidor was unveiled at a party in Havana during the Habanos Festival.
