J.C. Newman Cigar Co. has started shipping a new LeRoy Neiman cigar to retailers. Called the LeRoy Neiman 2025 Collector’s Edition, the release marks the third consecutive year that Tampa’s oldest cigarmaker has teamed up with the LeRoy Neiman and the Janet Byrne Neiman Foundation to honor the cigar-smoking American painter. The limited-edition smoke went out to retailers last week.

LeRoy Neiman

Neiman was known for his vividly-colored expressionist paintings of athletes, musicians and leisure activities, and the artwork adorning the cigar bands and cabinet of this year’s Collector’s Edition features an image of his painting “Jazz Horns.”

According to Drew Newman, fourth-generation owner of J.C. Newman, the image was chosen to celebrate the return of the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) trade show to New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. The cigar shape, too, was selected because it reminded him of the brass instruments depicted in Neiman’s painting.

“The torpedo shape reminds me of a horn,” Newman told Cigar Aficionado. Crafted with a pointy head, the Torpedo measures 6 1/4 inches by 52 ring gauge and is rolled with a “Havana Rosado” wrapper from Ecuador, a sun-grown binder from Florida and a mix of fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

Tara Zabor, executive director of the LeRoy Neiman and Janet Byrne Neiman Foundation, says jazz music was an important part of Neiman’s creative process. “Down the hall from his New York City studio, you could frequently hear jazz standards belting out of the speaker while the aromas of a freshly lit cigar wafted throughout the space. In ‘Jazz Horns,’ one can sense we are in the midst of peak harmonization in the brass section or in full swing amid the musicians, where LeRoy felt right at home.”

LeRoy Neiman 2025 Collector’s Edition is handmade in the United States at J.C. Newman’s historic El Reloj cigar factory in Tampa, Florida. Only 15,000 cigars will be released, packed in 750 wooden cabinets of 20 cigars. Each cigar has a suggested retail price of $22.

In line with the previous Collector’s Edition releases, J.C. Newman and the Neiman Foundation have agreed to donate all profits from the new cigar to support arts education in Tampa's public schools.

"Every cigar from the LeRoy Neiman 2025 Collector’s Edition directly supports our ongoing mission at the Foundation," says Zabor. "The profits help us improve arts education in local public schools, keeping LeRoy's passion for nurturing creativity alive and thriving among the next generation of artists.”
