Isla Del Cocodrilo by Warped Goes Light
In 2024, Kyle Gellis of Warped Cigars introduced Isla Del Cocodrilo, a Dominican-made line named after the crocodile-like shape of Cuba. Now the brand is getting a lighter, limited-edition offshoot called Blanco, which comes in a shape the company has never released before. It is expected to start shipping next week, on March 4.
Rolled at Tabacalera La Isla, the same Dominican factory as the original line, Blanco is made in one size, a double-tapered Perfecto measuring 6 1/2 inches by 55 ring gauge. Blanco boasts the same internal tobaccos as the core line: two binder leaves (one Brazilian Arapiraca and one Ecuador Habano 2000) atop Nicaraguan filler. The Ecuador Habano wrapper has been replaced with a lighter leaf of Ecuador Connecticut but both have undergone the same desflorado method. Also known as “topping,” desflorado means the tobacco plant’s flower has been removed in the field. This allows the plant’s energy to be redirected from going to the flower to the leaves instead, resulting in stronger tobacco.
According to Gellis, Blanco is medium-bodied in terms of strength, with the Ecuador Connecticut wrapper adding “an intense creaminess.”
Packaged in white boxes of 15, Blanco has a suggested retail price of $18 per cigar. Of the 1,500 boxes being produced, half of them are intended to ship on March 4, with the remaining 750 boxes scheduled to go out after the PCA trade show in April.
