Habanos To Bring Back Cohiba Talismán in Limited Quantities

The Cohiba Talismán is back. In an unusual move for Habanos S.A., the Cuban cigar monopoly has announced another limited production run of the Cohiba Talismán, the Edición Limitada from 2017. Habanos cites popular demand as the reason.

“The Limited Edition 2017 Cohiba Talismán has been one of the most demanded in the history of this product concept,” Habanos said in an official statement. “Due to this success and the availability of raw material from the same harvest used for this Limited Edition, Habanos S.A. has decided to reward the loyalty of its followers with an additional quantity of Cohiba Talismán.”

At 6 1/8 inches long by 54 ring gauge, the pigtailed Talismán is one of the heftiest Cohibas ever made. Habanos made it a point to reiterate that the tobacco is from the same harvest as the original release, although the new boxes will be stamped with a 2019 production date. The packaging is the same as well.

“The distinctive dressings and labels of Cohiba Talismán will be those used for its initial production in 2017, considering that the raw material comes from the same harvest from which the Limited Edition was produced, with at least two years of aging and the boxes will carry the date of production in 2019,” Habanos stated.

It should be noted that the Cohiba Talismán is still marketed as an Edición Limitada and is not going into regular production the way some Edición Limitadas have in the past. Cigars like the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial, H. Upmann Magnum 50 and the Trinidad Topes started as Edición Limitadas and are now part of the normal Habanos portfolio.

Like the initial run, the Talismán cigars come in slide-lid boxes of 10 cigars. When they were first released, these Cohibas scored 91 points in a Cigar Aficionado rating and retailed for £69 per cigar in the U.K., which is about $88 by the current exchange rate. One Swiss retailer who has Talismáns in stock has them marked for 1,129 Swiss francs ($1,135) per box, or $114 per cigar.

This new run of the Talismán will most likely cost more.
