Fuente’s Don Carlos 90 Años Now Arriving In Stores
You’ve heard of cigars that have two binders, but how about two wrappers? Carlos Fuente Sr. would have turned 90 years old this year. To honor his late father, Carlos Fuente Jr. is doing something experimental: a cigar with one wrapper on top of the other. Called Arturo Fuente Don Carlos 90 Años, the unusual cigars began shipping to retailers this week.
If you look on the lid of the box, it says “Cameroon” on one side and “Corojo” on the other. Each 90 Años features the same Cameroon wrapper typically found on Don Carlos cigars, but you won’t see it. That’s because it’s underneath another wrapper, a Dominican Corojo cover leaf. That outer wrapper was grown at Chateau de La Fuente, the farm in the Dominican Republic where Fuente also cultivates wrapper for the famed OpusX series of cigars. Beneath the two wrappers, the rest of the tobacco—binder and filler—is Dominican as well.
These Robusto Extras measure 5 3/4 inches long by 47 ring gauge and have a suggested retail price of $13 each. They’re made in the Dominican Republic at Tabalcalera Fuente y Cia. and come in 90-count chests.
