E.P. Carrillo Allegiance Heading To Stores
E.P. Carrillo Allegiance, a line of cigars that were previewed at the PCA trade show this summer, is shipping from Miami to retail shops today. The cigar marks a departure for E.P. Carrillo, for although Allegiance bears the company’s name it was not made at E.P. Carrillo’s factory in the Dominican Republic. Instead, this smoke is rolled in Nicaragua by Oliva Cigar Co. It has a Sumatra-seed wrapper, and the rest of the blend is entirely Nicaraguan. There are four sizes: Sidekick (a robusto measuring 5 inches long by 50 ring gauge; $12), Confidant (a 6 by 52 toro, $13.10), Wingman (6 7/8 inches long by 54, $13.50) and a hefty cigar called Chaperone measuring 6 1/4 by 58, which retails for $14. They are packed 20 to the box.
The cigars were expected in October, so they are running a few weeks late.
Allegiance has a green and gold color scheme, and those with a sharp eye may have noticed cigarmaker Ernesto Perez-Carrillo smoking one on stage at the Big Smoke Las Vegas seminars held this weekend. “The green came to mind because of its association with nature and particularly tobacco leaves,” Perez-Carrillo has said. “We even tried to get the green as close as we could to the tone of tobacco leaves in the fields.”
