Davidoff Shipping Year Of The Snake For 2025
When one cycle ends, another begins. For Davidoff of Geneva, the Chinese zodiac came full circle in 2024 with its zodiac-themed series of cigars, which hit the market in 2012 in advance of the Year of the Snake, which began in 2013. Now it is time to begin again with a new Year of the Snake for 2025, expected to start shipping tomorrow.
While the original Year of the Snake was made in a Churchill format, this year’s edition is rolled in a thinner, snake-like size measuring 7 inches by 43 ring gauge. The blend consists of an Ecuadoran wrapper and binder atop a filler blend of Dominican (a hybrid the company refers to as “98”) and Mexican San Andrés Negro tobacco. According to the company, this marks the second instance ever in the Davidoff portfolio a cigar has been blended with Mexican filler tobacco, and the first use of the Dominican “98” hybrid. In terms of strength, it’s supposed to be a medium-bodied cigar.
The limited-edition smoke has a suggested retail price of $62 each. Only 4,200 red boxes of 10 are allotted for the U.S. market.
For those who prefer thicker ring gauges, the Year of the Snake 2025 also comes in two larger formats. The first is the 6-by-52 Flagship Exclusive Toro, which is only available through Davidoff retail stores. These retail for $89 each, and come 24 per box. Only 600 boxes are being produced.
The other format is the even larger 6-by-56 Gran Toro, which is part of the Year of the Snake Masterpiece Humidor set, accented with 24-carat gold. The snake motif was designed by Chinese illustrator Feifei Chen and rendered by French marquetry artist Mariane Léger, who used 326 individual pieces of wood to create the image. Not available for individual sale, 88 Gran Toros are included with the humidor (in Chinese culture, the number eight is lucky and symbolizes good fortune). A total of 25 humidors have been made, with five designated for the U.S. market. It retails for $49,000.
The 2025 Year of the Snake cigars are produced in the Dominican Republic at the Cigars Davidoff factory.
