Crowned Heads Blood Medicine Gets Extension
In 2015, Nashville-based cigarmaker Crowned Heads released an event-only cigar called Blood Medicine. Available in one size (a robusto), the cigar got its name from The Merchant Hotel in downtown Nashville, which served as a pharmacy in the 1800s and a wall still bears the slogan “Blood Medicine.” Blood Medicine had limited-edition releases in 2022 and 2024, but was expanded earlier this year as a limited-edition line. Now, the brand is getting just a little bigger, with a new extension called B Positive Limited Edition 2025, which is expected to ship in mid-September.
Blood Medicine B-Positive Limited Edition 2025 is available in one size, a toro measuring 6 inches by 52 ring gauge, which retails for $12.95. It’s made with the same internal blend as the original: Ecuador Connecticut binder and Nicaraguan fillers. But the wrapper is new, as the original Ecuador Habano has been replaced with Nicaraguan Corojo. According to Crowned Heads co-founder Jon Huber, B Positive is bolder than the original Blood Medicine.
“I was looking for a darker, meatier expression of the Blood Medicine blend and experimented with several wrappers including broadleaf (Connecticut) and a San Andrés (Mexico) varietal, as well. Nothing really hit me until we started working with this Corojo wrapper, and once we did, it became clear that it took the blend to an entirely new dimension in flavor and intensity,” says Huber.
Like multiple brands in the Crowned Heads portfolio such as Juárez and Míl Dias, B Positive is produced in Nicaragua at the D’Hatuey factory (formerly TacaNicsa). Production is limited to 2,400 boxes of 12.
The original Blood Medicine line was rated in a recent issue of Cigar Insider and the 5 x 52 earned a healthy 92 points.
